School House in Clemency

This project for a school building in the village of Clemency was the last of a series of designs that began in 1995 at the request of the then local authority.

The project evolved as legislation, requirements and available building sites changed, until 2007 when a new member-elect of the local council feared the Council would be ridiculed if they didn't build something which looked like what other councils were building.

I declined their request to continue when they failed to understand that “passive“ building was a technology, not a style. And I refused to design a building resembling any of the photos and publications they presented to me.

Unfortunately this occasion to show that it was possible to build my design as an energy efficient school building was lost, at least for now......
