Mixed building "Cockerill" in Esch-sur-Alzette

Project by Mulhern & Steil for a mixed building, realized in Esch-sur-Alzette in 1994 for the Housing Fund at Moderate Cost.

Building housing 32 social apartments for rent, and a municipal crèche. The classical style was imposed for the design of this building both by its size and its location, on a clear boulevard along the railway. Access to the stairs leading to the upper floors is in a central passage, which also gives access to a public park located inside the islet.

We had some difficulty getting approval for the design of the facades because the authorities considered that our building "did not harmonize with the neighboring buildings".

I admit that we did everything at the time not to harmonize with them.

Assistant to the realization - Architecture & Design - Jim Clemes.
